Top Art & Books At Fringe Festival 2018

Jul 27, 2018

Fringe isn’t the only festival happening across Edinburgh over the next few weeks; the International Book Festival and Art Festivals are running in unison. Festival overload!

Here are our top picks for arts and book shows from all three.

Neil Hilborn

Officially the most watched poet of all time, make sure you swing by the Dissection Room at Summerhall to watch Neil Hilborn just a little bit more.

Youtube poetry phenomenon Hilborn brings his long-awaited second collection of Future poetry to the capital on August 23.

Maria Alyokhina with Yanis Varoufakis

This one is technically part of Edinburgh’s International Book Festival, but falling between Fringe dates, and worth a punt nonetheless.

On August 18, the Baillie Gifford Theatre will play host to Pussy Riot’s Maria Alyokhina, as she discusses her book, Riot Days.

The afternoon will be hosted by Yanis Varoufakis, as Alyokhina documents the method behind Pussy Riot’s world-famous protests and her own stories of Russian jails and the battle for free speech in Putin’s Russia.

Adam Lewis Jacob: No Easy Answers

You’ll find No Easy Answers at Institut Français Ecosse as part of Edinburgh Art Festival from 26 July to 26 August.

An experimental moving image installation, Jacob’s art looks at the current political climate in Britain and its changing economic situation over the preceding decades.

Platform 2018

This year’s Platform (part of the Edinburgh Art Festival) brings together four upcoming female artists from across Scotland.

Renèe Helèna Browne, Annie Crabtree, Isobel Lutz-Smith, and Rae-Yen Song present their individual artworks at the City Art Centre from July 27 to August 26.
